Review: The Long Road Home

The Long Road Home The Long Road Home by L. Wilder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My, My , My ..what to write about this little diddy. First off Gavin *swoon*, he is just everything you want. Sweet, caring, knows how to get things done, and knows when and when not to intervene. Poor Sunny, that girl has been through the ringer, but can only remember parts of it. This story wasn't all about them, it had you catching up with the guys and their ol'ladies. It had you celebrating , and cheering on the good guys while you boo and hiss the bad. The ending of " what really happen" was a shocker to me. I will admit I was thinking something different. Over all this was a well written, sweet, sexy, catching up, showing you that everyone has a strong side.

👑Release Day Blitz & Review 👑 His Princess by Alexa Riley

HP-Ad.jpg

goodreads-badge.png

His.png

Alena is a princess, and with that comes responsibility. Like marrying the giant caveman King Roman, who looks more like a warrior than a ruler. Everything about him is intense. Especially the way he looks at her. But she's been promised to him, and there's no way out.

Roman took one look and made up his mind. Princess Alena will be his and no one will stop him from taking her. Everything about her belongs to him now, and waiting one week for a wedding isn't going to happen.

This beast of a man might just claim his princess before she has a chance to say "I do."

Warning: Oh, this is good. It's so, so good. Trust us.

I WANT A ROMAN!!! Oh I loved how he set the parents straight that they aren't in control no more. And in true AR style , this one is fast, cute, HOT, and even had a story inside the with her sister. But it is another great read.

Chapter 1

*Alena*
“Is that him?” Tabby asks as she comes up behind me to get a better look. Her long dark hair tumbles onto my shoulder as she peers at my laptop screen. It’s as if she’s never seen the man in question. Everyone knows who King Roman is. Well, if you’re royalty you do. Right now, there’s not a royal alive who doesn’t know who he is, because he’s decided to take a wife. A wife of his choosing, and I’ve been chosen.
It’s the fate of someone with my bloodline. I don’t get a choice on who I get to marry, so when my family was presented with the arrangement, it was decided behind closed doors, and papers were signed. I’m officially the promised bride to the King, and that’s that.
I look at my future husband, and there’s no missing that Roman is a born leader. It radiates off him in commanding waves. I can even feel it through my computer screen. Though I’m not sure if he should be sitting on a throne or leading an army of men into battle. From the look on his face, you would think he was a warrior.
He’s nothing but lines and fierce angles. The man is well over six feet tall and then some. In his pictures he even towers over some of his own security. His hair is dark as night and comes to his collar, but it does little to hide his eyes, which are just as black. He’s not lean either. He’s thick and broad like a rugby player, and I can see why the public has nicknamed him The Wall. He radiates strength and power, and my hand is shaky as I click the next image.
“Tabby. I can’t marry him,” I plead with my sister.
I don’t even know how I was chosen over her. Tabby is the one men flock to. Her beauty lights up a room. I look nothing like my family.
Somehow I ended up barely over five foot with blonde hair, blue eyes, and the fairest skin. My sister, on the other hand, like the rest of my family, is almost six foot and has long black hair, deep green eyes and skin that looks like the sun kisses it every day.
I stand out in a way I don’t like. I’ve felt like I don’t belong since birth, but Tabby would never make me feel that way.
She wraps her arms around me from behind, both of us still staring at the screen. “I tried,” she says, making me gasp. I turn around and look at her.
Tabby is dreading getting married, probably because my parents have been talking about her marriage since she could walk. The worst part is, she doesn’t even want to marry royalty. In fact, she despises the idea. If it was up to her she’d have a little cottage with twenty kids and a brute of a husband. Yes, a brute. One too many romance novels and now Tabby is in love with cavemen. “I knew you wouldn’t want this.” She shakes her head. “I’m sorry, Al.”
“I can’t believe you’d do that for me.”
“You know I’d do anything for you. I’m your big sister. It’s my job.” She pulls on a strand of my hair. “I was hoping that maybe if he had agreed to marry me instead, I could bring you with me. But to be honest, I don’t even think they asked him.” She walks over to my bed and plops down on it. “He wants you.”
“Maybe. Maybe I can ask to take you with me,” I try. If I get married to this man and have to leave home, it wouldn’t be so bad if I had Tabby with me. Because when I talk about home, I don’t mean the one my parents made for us. I mean Tabby is my home. The thought of us being apart is something I don’t want to face.
“Yeah, right.”
I knew that wouldn’t be possible before the words left my mouth. Tabby is my parents’ golden ticket. She’s had so many offers of marriage we’ve lost count. But my parents turned them all down. Never rich enough, never had enough status or power. Tabby is twenty-four and still unmarried. That isn’t normal. I’m barely marrying age. I thought I had more time and even thought maybe I would never be asked. I’d hoped that I could just go wherever Tabby went.
But to my—and my parents’—shock, I was chosen. And by someone with a lot of power and money.
I turn back to my laptop, forcing myself to look at my future. Not only is Roman intimidating, the word is he rules with an iron fist. I click through pictures of him and never once do I encounter one where he’s smiling. His face is always straight and stoic, even in the pictures of him as a little boy with his mother and father.
I don’t know how long I scroll though the pictures when Tabby interrupts me. “Who’s that?” she asks, and I jump. I didn’t even feel her come up behind me.
“Princess Kaul,” I say, glancing down at the print under the picture. “Looks like they are on a date at some ball. She’s pretty,” I mutter, feeling a pang of jealousy that my husband—future husband, I correct—was out with another woman not even a month ago.
“Meh,” my sister says dismissively. “Who knows if she’s really pretty once you wipe all that shit off her face.”
I giggle.
“Why didn’t he just marry her?”
“Maybe he got all that make-up off and ran for the hills. Maybe she’s annoying. Maybe she chews with her mouth open. Who knows.”
“But he’s going to marry me without even meeting me. What if I do all that stuff? I can do all that stuff.” I turn in my chair. “Layer my face up, stuff my mouth with food so he can see every chomp. And we both know my laugh is the worst.”
“It is pretty bad,” Tabby agrees, grinning.
It’s not that it sounds funny, it’s just kinda loud. Really loud. Maybe a little infectious, too, because a few times I’ve started laughing, then Tabby and I are laughing about my laugh, and this will go on for five minutes. It drives my parents nuts, which is an added bonus.
Tabby’s eyes light up at a thought. “He’s coming for dinner.”
My shoulders drop. I don’t know why she’s excited about that.
“Maybe you can make a fool of yourself. Make him realize that you aren’t the one he wants!” Tabby jumps up, and I can see this plan is already in motion.

Review: Against the Ropes

Against the Ropes Against the Ropes by Sarah Castille
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars. I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved the premise of the book , and they outcome. But there was a few middle items that I didn't love. Ok number one, YES... Torment/Max is one hell of an alpha . And I understand his need to protect, but I fell as there are moments his alphaness went WAYYYY overboard. Even to the point that I had to put the book down and walk away , b/c if I kept reading I would have stopped and this would have been a DNF. And Mac, she was well different. I mean one min she was all shy, and scared and timid , then in a blink she became a ball buster, then go right back to shy and scared. It was too much and it really started to make me not like her.

Blurb
A Cry For Help
It only takes one phone call and Navy SEAL Drake Avery is rushing back to Tennessee in the middle of the night. His sisters are in danger and he will do whatever it takes to protect them.

A New Twist
Now is not the time for a relationship, but damned if Drake doesn’t cross paths with a smokin’ hot kindergarten teacher named Karen Eastman. Miss Eastman has Drake thinking naughty thoughts when he needs to have his head in the game. He never thought he’d be hot for teacher.

Demons from the Past
Part of the hell of going home is that you know everyone, and they know you.  Just when you think you can trust someone, they can turn on a dime.  Old and new enemies are thrilled to discover Drake has a beautiful new weakness:  Karen.  But messing with the women in his life, is a mistake.  You mess with the bull, you get the horns.

EXCERPT

“Now, I want you to tell me all about yourself.  Starting with how you met my father, what kind of relationship you have with the sheriff, and how you ended up in this car scaring the piss out of my sister’s baby girl.”
“I’m not scaring no baby.”
Drake held onto his gun with his left hand and with his right, he reached over the front seat and wrapped his big hand around the man’s scrawny neck.  “You wanna re-think your answer?”
The man wheezed.  Both of Fred’s hands came up to try and yank Drake’s iron finger’s away from his throat.  It was no use.  Finally, he gave up, his eyes bulging.
“Nod if you’re going to answer my questions.”
The man gave the best nod he could under the circumstances.  Drake dropped him back into the front seat of his car.
“Prison.  I knew your old man from prison.  We done time together a couple of years ago.”
“He got ahold of you awfully fast considering he just got out three days ago.”
“Huey.  Huey called us.  He told us ole Norville was getting sprung.  He rounded us up.”  Great, it was a family affair.  His dad’s cousin Huey was in on things.  He’d always hated that fucker.
“Who’s us?”
“Us.”
Drake punched him in the back of the head.
The man let out a loud yell.  “Are you trying to kill me?” he asked as he tenderly touched the spot where Drake’s fist had landed.
“That was a love tap.  Give me names.”
“I don’t know everybody.”
The guy was a moron, Drake wanted to hit him again just to see if it would jumpstart his brain.  “Give me the names you do know,” he gritted out.
“There’s Al, he did time for trying to steal a car.  But it was an unmarked police car a block away from a police precinct.  He’s none too bright.”
“That must mean he’s dumber ‘n dirt if you’re noticing.”  Fred looked confused.  “Go on,” Drake prompted.
“Leslie is a man, even though he has a girl’s name.  He don’t like it when we try to call him Les.  He got beat up a lot in prison.  I personally think he liked it.  Getting beat up, that is.  Then there’s Snake.  He’s with the brotherhood.”
Drake thought he knew what he was talking about, but he wanted to be sure.
“What brotherhood?”
“You know, the Aryan brotherhood.  He’s a Nazi.  He says next month he’ll have more guys coming.”
Fuck.
“Why is Huey so hellbent on recruiting guys to help my father?”
“It’s the other way around.  Norville tells Huey what to do.  Your dad and his cousin used to own this town.  Huey’s been trying to keep things together, but Norville says he’s going to own the county with all his contacts.”
“How does the sheriff figure into all of this?”
“Snake told me that he doesn’t want to get his hands too dirty, he just wants kick-backs, so Huey’s been paying him and a judge off.”
Drake swallowed hard to keep the bile down.  Just what kind of family tree had he fallen out of?  And where the hell was Huey hiding out, because he sure as hell hadn’t been at the homestead last night.
“Where you from, Fred?”
“Kentucky.”
“This your car?”  Drake could see the man consider lying.  He knocked him on the same spot on the head.
“Ow.  That hurts.  It’s my aunt’s car.”  Drake would bet anything that his aunt didn’t know Fred had it.
“Fred, you’re going to head back to Kentucky tonight.  If I see your ass in Tennessee again, I’m going to kill you.  Do you hear me?”
“Huey’ll kill me if I leave.”  Drake set down his gun on the backseat, leaned over the front seat, grabbed him by the throat and used the thumb of his other hand to dig into the goose-egg on the man’s head.  He was gratified by Fred’s scream.
“I’ll go.  I’ll go.  Please stop.”  Drake waited a moment, then he felt tears hit the hand that was holding onto Fred’s throat.
“Give me your gun and I’ll let you loose,” Drake promised.
“I don’t have one.”
Drake dug in harder.
“It’s in the glove box.”
What a dumbshit.  He’d had his gun where it wasn’t readily available.
“Open the driver’s side door and get out of the car when I let you loose, Fred.  Then go to the hood of the car and assume the position.”
“I’ll do anything.  Just stop hurting me.”
More tears hit Drake’s hand.  He released Fred and prayed he wouldn’t make a play for the gun in the glovebox.  Not that he’d have a problem subduing the asshat.  Nope, he just wanted Fred to be conscious and able to drive back to Kentucky in the next ten minutes.
Fred opened the car door and was soon pressed spread-eagled over the hood of the car.  Drake leaned over the front seat and pulled Fred’s pistol out of the glovebox.  He then got out of the car and frisked Fred and found a switchblade in his boot.
“Pop the trunk of the car,” Drake directed, wanting to see if there were any more weapons.
The smell of body odor assaulted him when the trunk opened.
“My God man, haven’t you heard of deodorant?” Drake demanded.  It had been rank in the car as the man sweated, but the pile of dirty laundry made him gag.
“I was going to go to the laundry-mat,” Fred defended himself.
“Just get home to Kentucky and burn your clothes, you can’t save them.  If I see you here again, you’re going to be the first one I target.  Are we clear?”
Fred nodded.
“Say the words.  Are we clear?”
“Yes.  I’m leaving town now.  Can I have my gun?” he asked, proving just how stupid he was.
Drake shook his head and pointed to the open car door.  “You’ve got one minute for me to see taillights.  Otherwise you’ll be wishing Huey was here.”
Fred stood there looking at him.
“One, two, three,” Drake started counting, and Fred scrambled towards the driver’s seat.  He hit his knee against the door.  Once again, Drake had to listen to him whine.  Fred gunned the car trying to get it to go.  It was obvious the parking brake was on, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to press on the accelerator.  God, he’d be lucky to make it out of Sevier County, let alone back home to Kentucky.  Finally, Fred figured out his problem and the car lurched forward, and he did a fast U-turn.  It had taken longer than the allotted time, but Drake always gave extra consideration to the chronically stupid.

Review: Lumber Jacked

Lumber Jacked Lumber Jacked by Chance Carter
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

What in the world did I just read? It was the strangest story line, strangest characters, and just plain out strange. It didn't flow, it didn't mash, and it didn't make any sense. The Aunt Shirley alone was the most messed up , vindictive , wishy washy character. She made no sense , and honestly she shouldn't have been in the book. You could have just chalked up to perverted old man. I keep trying with Chance Carter books, but once again I am let down. And I do hate to say this will be my last Chance Carter book.

Review: 30 Days

30 Days 30 Days by J.L. Leslie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4.5 Stars , I purchased b/c of the blurb. Started it and honestly couldn't put it down. I needed sleep , the saving grace was when my kindle died. At first I will admit I thought this book was going to be only about the 30days. Boy was I wrong, this book just kept going and going. The author has believable characters, with a good amount of depth. Smooth transitions , spicey arguments. You got to met a lot of people , yet I didn't feel lost and or felt overwhelmed. I am hoping the next book 60days , even though it is about a different family member , that we learn a little more about the Morgan family past. I want to see Dad, son grow to understand each other. I want to learn more about Memphis mother, and even her dad. My opinion on this book , was addicting, deep emotional problems and just enough humor to not make it all so serious. And yes, half way through this book , I purchased the other 3 in the series!

Release Day Blitz: Valentine For Hire by Aria Cole

Aria VFH.png

For Bryn Stafford, the prospect of going home for her sister's extravagant Valentine's Day wedding, hopelessly single...again, sounds like hell on earth. She's always dreaded introducing anyone to the hot mess that is her over-the top, obnoxiously wealthy and well-bred family, but desperate times call for desperate measures. After seeing an ad for the city's premier escort service, Elite Fling, Bryn finds herself making an appointment to hire one very handsome, very expensive, fake date for the big day.

When the woman of Brodie Merrick's dreams walks into Elite Fling, his brother's slightly immoral but incredibly successful “dating” service, Brodie has two thoughts a) what the hell is a girl like her doing in a place like this and b) what would those sparkly red stilettos feel like wrapped around his neck? He begs his brother to give him the job, even though he’s just the computer guy and most definitely not an escort, but because Brodie is lucky he soon finds himself with one very sexy fake Valentine.

When they meet on the day of the wedding, Bryn assumes he's the escort she's hired to be her date, but Brodie has other plans, plans that involve him and her and a very long and lucky orgasmic future together. Can he win his feisty fake Valentine's heart or will their chemistry fade faster than the syrupy sweet sugar high?

Warning: Forget candy hearts and frilly flowers, Brodie is a man's man—he see's what he wants, he takes what he needs, he lays claim to what's his. He's all alpha, all the time and determined to give Bryn blissful orgasms, beautiful babies, and the last name Merrick.
