One accident - a freaking car crash. That’s all it took to send my life into a tailspin. Little did I know that out of the wreckage, everything would fall into place. I would get everything I had ever worked for.
Little did I know that I would find the woman who would cross check my life, flipping everything upside down.
Even though she's melting the ice that surrounds my heart, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Will I ever be able to find my footing or am I destined to stay pinned against the boards?
Note: Cross Checked is the second book in the Shots On Goal Series. It can be read as a standalone, has a happily ever after, and does not have a cliffhanger. There are character crossovers from Hat Trick (book one in the series) which is also a standalone with a HEA and no cliffhanger.

2nd in the series, but you don't need to feel as if you will be missing something. Cross Check and Hat Trick coincide with each other. It is a sweet , well written , romance with a very HOT male and a strong female. I enjoyed reading this and look forward to reading more from this author.

EXCERPT:
I sent Karla my address and my heart started racing even faster. I hadn’t been that nervous to have a chick over to my place since I was in high school. Before I knew it, Karla was massaging my knee with some type of icy-hot that she called hot cream. Whatever it was, it was an orange miracle in a jar. “So, are you going to fill me in on your epic evening or what?” she asked, wiping her hands on a towel. “Well, you saw the game, so you know Gavin got his first hat trick and we won.” She leaned back against my headboard, shifting around to get comfortable. “Yep.” I rolled onto my side to look at her. “What you didn’t see was that Myla was there with a date. She was right next to the penalty box.” “That’s why you looked so pissed off when you were in there.” It had been so long since I had taken the time to talk to someone other than Myla about my life, and it was incredible to watch Karla’s facial expressions as I told her just the simple shit about my night. “Well, it gets better. So, her date turned into a fucking tool and tried to force himself on her.” Karla gasped, throwing her hand to her chest. “Is she ok? Should I go check on her?” She started to shove up from the bed and I grabbed her wrist. “She’s fine and sleeping. Promise.” She slid back down into her spot and I continued. “Long story short, Gavin and I beat the crap out of the ass hat.” “Sounds like you had one hell of an eventful evening.” Her smile was so captivating, I had to make sure I was blinking enough so I didn’t look like I was staring at her as hard as I actually was. “Eventful is a good word for it, though shit show is what comes to mind for me right off the bat.” She started to giggle. “Yeah, that’s a good one too. I don’t have any tales of valor and brawn to match that. I worked and then sat on my couch with Chinese takeout while watching the game.” “Your two friends were too busy to join?” I teased and her cheeks blared red. “Hey, now. Don’t be jealous that I have two friends.” I leaned over, letting my lips land on hers for a quick second, pulling away just as fast. “Sorry, I just couldn’t wait any longer.” She bit her bottom lip. “No. That was really amazing.” I shifted away from her a bit. “I feel like there is a but that is supposed to be coming after that statement.” She shook her head. “I just haven’t dated anyone, or even kissed anyone since me ex. I’m glad it was you that broke my no-kissing streak though.” Then, without warning, Karla straddled me and crashed her lips to mine. My body went into autopilot. I rolled on top of her, even though my knee was screaming in pain – I ignored it. Letting our lips move together in a slow, soft dance, my fingers intertwined with her hair. Even though I wanted to let the beast inside me roar and break free of his cage, there was something about Karla, something too soft about her. I got the vibe that she had been too hurt in the past for things to go too quickly, so I let her dictate the next move. Her tongue slowly started to explore my mouth. She was gentle but forceful, timid but firm; it was all so intriguing. “You’re an amazing kisser,” she said eagerly. I pulled away to look into her eyes, brushing her soft blonde hair behind her ear. “I was just thinking the same thing about you.” She pulled me down, locking our lips together again. “I want you.” Her hushed words coursed through my body, but an overwhelming feeling of restraint won out over my primal urges. I rolled off Karla, pulled her into my arms. “There is nothing I want more in this world than to fuck you right now, but I can’t.” She ripped away from me, a look of disgust taking over her gorgeous face. “Please tell me you’re single.” I shot up, looking her dead in the face. “Fuck! Yes. I am single. It’s just that I really care about you, like I want to date you, get to know you. I don’t want to just fuck you tonight.” Her shoulders relaxed as a sigh escaped her lips. “You had me so fucking scared for a second.” There was something about Karla. I needed all of her. I needed her mind, spirit, love, devotion, and body. In an instant I hated to think that I might use her up and throw her away, like I always did in the past. I felt for the first time in my life that I was right where I needed to be, next to the woman that would bring together all of my broken pieces. I grabbed her hand. “Karla, can I take you out on a date Wednesday night? And then maybe a few more if you’re not sick of me, and then fuck you senseless after we have a chance to get to know each other a bit?” She nodded, smiling like a little kid on Christmas morning. “I would like that.” “Good. Me too.” She leaned over, kissing my cheek. “So, I am going to go, because if I stay here in this ridiculously comfortable bed, I might try to sleep with you, and then I would ruin your awesome plan.”

A Cry For Help
It only takes one phone call and Navy SEAL Drake Avery is rushing back to Tennessee in the middle of the night. His sisters are in danger and he will do whatever it takes to protect them.

A New Twist
Now is not the time for a relationship, but damned if Drake doesn’t cross paths with a smokin’ hot kindergarten teacher named Karen Eastman. Miss Eastman has Drake thinking naughty thoughts when he needs to have his head in the game. He never thought he’d be hot for teacher.

Demons from the Past
Part of the hell of going home is that you know everyone, and they know you.  Just when you think you can trust someone, they can turn on a dime.  Old and new enemies are thrilled to discover Drake has a beautiful new weakness:  Karen.  But messing with the women in his life, is a mistake.  You mess with the bull, you get the horns.

EXCERPT

“Now, I want you to tell me all about yourself.  Starting with how you met my father, what kind of relationship you have with the sheriff, and how you ended up in this car scaring the piss out of my sister’s baby girl.”
“I’m not scaring no baby.”
Drake held onto his gun with his left hand and with his right, he reached over the front seat and wrapped his big hand around the man’s scrawny neck.  “You wanna re-think your answer?”
The man wheezed.  Both of Fred’s hands came up to try and yank Drake’s iron finger’s away from his throat.  It was no use.  Finally, he gave up, his eyes bulging.
“Nod if you’re going to answer my questions.”
The man gave the best nod he could under the circumstances.  Drake dropped him back into the front seat of his car.
“Prison.  I knew your old man from prison.  We done time together a couple of years ago.”
“He got ahold of you awfully fast considering he just got out three days ago.”
“Huey.  Huey called us.  He told us ole Norville was getting sprung.  He rounded us up.”  Great, it was a family affair.  His dad’s cousin Huey was in on things.  He’d always hated that fucker.
“Who’s us?”
“Us.”
Drake punched him in the back of the head.
The man let out a loud yell.  “Are you trying to kill me?” he asked as he tenderly touched the spot where Drake’s fist had landed.
“That was a love tap.  Give me names.”
“I don’t know everybody.”
The guy was a moron, Drake wanted to hit him again just to see if it would jumpstart his brain.  “Give me the names you do know,” he gritted out.
“There’s Al, he did time for trying to steal a car.  But it was an unmarked police car a block away from a police precinct.  He’s none too bright.”
“That must mean he’s dumber ‘n dirt if you’re noticing.”  Fred looked confused.  “Go on,” Drake prompted.
“Leslie is a man, even though he has a girl’s name.  He don’t like it when we try to call him Les.  He got beat up a lot in prison.  I personally think he liked it.  Getting beat up, that is.  Then there’s Snake.  He’s with the brotherhood.”
Drake thought he knew what he was talking about, but he wanted to be sure.
“What brotherhood?”
“You know, the Aryan brotherhood.  He’s a Nazi.  He says next month he’ll have more guys coming.”
Fuck.
“Why is Huey so hellbent on recruiting guys to help my father?”
“It’s the other way around.  Norville tells Huey what to do.  Your dad and his cousin used to own this town.  Huey’s been trying to keep things together, but Norville says he’s going to own the county with all his contacts.”
“How does the sheriff figure into all of this?”
“Snake told me that he doesn’t want to get his hands too dirty, he just wants kick-backs, so Huey’s been paying him and a judge off.”
Drake swallowed hard to keep the bile down.  Just what kind of family tree had he fallen out of?  And where the hell was Huey hiding out, because he sure as hell hadn’t been at the homestead last night.
“Where you from, Fred?”
“Kentucky.”
“This your car?”  Drake could see the man consider lying.  He knocked him on the same spot on the head.
“Ow.  That hurts.  It’s my aunt’s car.”  Drake would bet anything that his aunt didn’t know Fred had it.
“Fred, you’re going to head back to Kentucky tonight.  If I see your ass in Tennessee again, I’m going to kill you.  Do you hear me?”
“Huey’ll kill me if I leave.”  Drake set down his gun on the backseat, leaned over the front seat, grabbed him by the throat and used the thumb of his other hand to dig into the goose-egg on the man’s head.  He was gratified by Fred’s scream.
“I’ll go.  I’ll go.  Please stop.”  Drake waited a moment, then he felt tears hit the hand that was holding onto Fred’s throat.
“Give me your gun and I’ll let you loose,” Drake promised.
“I don’t have one.”
Drake dug in harder.
“It’s in the glove box.”
What a dumbshit.  He’d had his gun where it wasn’t readily available.
“Open the driver’s side door and get out of the car when I let you loose, Fred.  Then go to the hood of the car and assume the position.”
“I’ll do anything.  Just stop hurting me.”
More tears hit Drake’s hand.  He released Fred and prayed he wouldn’t make a play for the gun in the glovebox.  Not that he’d have a problem subduing the asshat.  Nope, he just wanted Fred to be conscious and able to drive back to Kentucky in the next ten minutes.
Fred opened the car door and was soon pressed spread-eagled over the hood of the car.  Drake leaned over the front seat and pulled Fred’s pistol out of the glovebox.  He then got out of the car and frisked Fred and found a switchblade in his boot.
“Pop the trunk of the car,” Drake directed, wanting to see if there were any more weapons.
The smell of body odor assaulted him when the trunk opened.
“My God man, haven’t you heard of deodorant?” Drake demanded.  It had been rank in the car as the man sweated, but the pile of dirty laundry made him gag.
“I was going to go to the laundry-mat,” Fred defended himself.
“Just get home to Kentucky and burn your clothes, you can’t save them.  If I see you here again, you’re going to be the first one I target.  Are we clear?”
Fred nodded.
“Say the words.  Are we clear?”
“Yes.  I’m leaving town now.  Can I have my gun?” he asked, proving just how stupid he was.
Drake shook his head and pointed to the open car door.  “You’ve got one minute for me to see taillights.  Otherwise you’ll be wishing Huey was here.”
Fred stood there looking at him.
“One, two, three,” Drake started counting, and Fred scrambled towards the driver’s seat.  He hit his knee against the door.  Once again, Drake had to listen to him whine.  Fred gunned the car trying to get it to go.  It was obvious the parking brake was on, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to press on the accelerator.  God, he’d be lucky to make it out of Sevier County, let alone back home to Kentucky.  Finally, Fred figured out his problem and the car lurched forward, and he did a fast U-turn.  It had taken longer than the allotted time, but Drake always gave extra consideration to the chronically stupid.

Blog Tour & Review ; Once Should Be Enough by Nikky Kaye

Are friends with benefits worth the cost?

My cocky friend Will doesn't believe that I'm frigid, but what does he know? His promises might make me shiver but it doesn't mean he can give me a happy. He's so confident he's betting me money on it, and a thousand bucks is a lot of money to a poor college student.

Once should be enough to taunt him with "I told you so," right?

But I didn't know he meant trying everything once...

This super hot 25,000-word standalone new adult romance novella has adult language and themes, and a happy ending (several, actually).

Hot, sexy, funny and romantic, a great friends with benefits story , and a wonder HEA. I love this one , but as I must say I just wish it was longer!!!!

A tremor went through me at the feel of his other hand higher up on my back, tracing the line of my spine.

“—a room!”

A nearby shout of laughter burst into my brain, bringing me back to reality. And that reality was that I was, once again, ready to climb Will like a tree in a public place. My face heated. Was I a closet exhibitionist?

“What do you think?” he asked, looking down at me. His eyes were almost black in the dim light of the bar, his mouth swollen from, well, me. I licked my lips.

Our lower halves were molded together as his palm slid further around my ass, to the damp little crease where my thigh started. I moaned. If he just stretched his fingers a little, he could touch—

“Think?” He wanted me to think? His wandering hands were this close to being the only thing holding me upright.

He nodded. “I know; it’s hard right now.”

“Uh huh.”

“Should we?”

“Should we what?”

His lips curved up. “Get a room.”

My earlier nervousness bubbled up again. As I started to look at the floor again—I think I had memorized the tile pattern by now—he broke his hands off my backside and tipped my chin up.

“Hey. We will do whatever you want,” he assured me.

And I believed that he meant it, that he would willingly go home with blue balls from hell if I stopped this. But if he was feeling anything like I was, we were standing at the top of the stairs with that Slinky again. I wanted—no, needed—him to push me over. He was just waiting for the word from me. Or maybe he wanted me to push him over this time.

“What do you want to do?” I asked him.

Yes, I was being passive-aggressive. I wanted to give him an out. Will may be an admitted pervert, but he was also a gentleman. He would never…

“I already told you,” he said. “I want to fuck you, however and wherever you want. Whenever, too, but now is good for me.”

“Here?” I squeaked.

“No. I need you in private.” He leaned close to my ear, letting out a dark chuckle. “I want to do things to you that are illegal in many states, and definitely against the health code, even in this place.”

If he could devour me whole with just his gaze, he would. I’d never felt so overwhelmed by just someone looking at me—into me—like my skin was made of glass. His breath was coming as short and fast as mine, as we both considered what those secret, wicked things would be.

“But I will wait, if it’s not tonight. Fuck, I’ll even take you out first. But I’m not waiting for the third date or anything like that,” he warned. “I’ve already gotten you out of your underwear.”

“I wasn’t wearing any.”

Nikky Kaye is almost my real name. I’m a former Film professor who likes more than her movies to be black and white. Sadly, the world doesn’t work that way. I have worked with movie stars, Ivy League brainiacs, and the United Nations—all of which means that I’m familiar with ass-kissing, power struggles, greed and faking it. In my spare time I parent 5 year-old twin boys, serve on the board of an independent cinema, and run a medical consulting company.

She told me Heaven would knock on my door one day.
That I would be swept away from the hell I lived in.
She was right about one thing and so wrong about the other.
Heaven came in the form of an angel just like she said.
Beautiful.
Perfect.
An angel.
And then.
My life became hell.
She disappeared. Vanished.
I left. Went to war. Killed. All for her.
Every face was the man who took her.
Every dream filled with her.
For twelve years I existed in hell. Breathed in the fires from down below.
Until her, the woman on the beach outside of my home.
Captivating.
Enchanting.
Mesmerizing.
It couldn't be my Cora, my angel, my heaven on earth.
She was dead.
Wasn't she?

Excerpt
Jesse’s threats should make me want to shut my mouth; they don’t. I’ll make all the noise in the world to find out why I feel like I’m being dragged to my death. Oh God, please tell me they do not know!
Without warning, Cutter grips me by my hair, yanking me out of my spot in the corner. My backside is landing on the rough gravel with a solid thud. The sharp stones are penetrating through the flesh on my back. I scream out in agony as this man bores his fingers into my cheeks, digging into my skin enough to draw blood with his fingernails penetrating through my flesh. They’re going to kill me.
“You’re finally getting a chance to get out of here. If you fuck this up, I’ll kill him. Do you get me?” What? I ignore his comment about leaving here. That rolling in my stomach starts to turn, spinning out of control until it crashes into my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. I know exactly whom he’s referring to, and the thought makes me want him to stick his dick in my mouth so I can bite the repulsive little thing off. He’s talking about Riddick. Cutter nods my head for me using his greased, stained hands, his fingernails so dirty I gag at the sight. Those hands that make me cringe every time they touch me leave my face and go right back to my hair, where he pulls me behind him across the lot while I stifle my cries of pain. Not from the gravel clawing and embedding into my skin. From the words he spits out like it’s an everyday occurrence to threaten me with the only thing that can plunder my soul. This is the first time he’s physically hurt me, which makes me realize that whatever I’m here for is the worst kind of bad.
My life is not my own anymore. It belongs to my brother, and I’m a nut job because of it. I live inside my own head, talk to myself, pretend like I’m carrying on a conversation with the one person I want with me all the time. Riddick. I stare at walls for hours upon hours of the day and night, daydreaming of a better life on the ocean, where I can roam freely. Feel the wind swaying in with the tide, my hair blowing back away from my face as I breathe in the salty air. These conscious fantasies are a young woman’s fairy tale we all wish to come true. Riddick knows how much living on the ocean means to me. He is going to kill them for thinking they can put their slimy hands on me. This will be the end to the street fighting gang war my brother seems to think he’s the king of. People stay clear of Jesse Barrick for a reason. He’s maniacal crazy. Certifiably teetering on the edge of insanity. And whatever his reasons are for mistreating me have crazed him out to the point where I’m tumbling over the edge first.
